About

Isla Chisholm is an independent foreign correspondent with more than twenty years of reporting across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. She covers global security, border dynamics, shifting alliances and international diplomacy.

Born into a Scottish family, she grew up across the Commonwealth and studied in New Zealand and Australia, where she also learned Polish — a language she now uses to cover security in Central and Eastern Europe.

Isla works strictly as a freelancer, convinced that objectivity is best kept on the move. Alongside her main beat she writes long-form essays on how Europe's royal houses navigate modern politics, diplomacy and soft power.
